How to live with wildlife….respect their space!

Ruby Ranch sits on the edge of the Eagle Nest Wilderness which is one of the most beautiful areas in all of Colorado. Our proximity to the wilderness means that we live with a wide variety of wild animals that are spectacular to witness.

However, we all must be cognizant of the responsibilities we have to be responsible in our interaction with these animals. We have invaded there space and we must be careful to have a minimum impact on there life.

Key areas that we can help:

  • Control trash - make sure you lock the dumpsters!

  • Remove BBQ's, salt licks and bird feeders from areas that can attract unwanted animails

  • Keep your distance and respect the animal's space

  • Keep your animals under our control

The consequences for not following these simple rules can mean death to these innocent and wonderful animals. So please be aware.

Living with Moose

One very amazing change in the last couple of decades has been the reintroduction of moose into Summit County. They are truly spectacular and majestic creatures to see. We often see them wandering around the Ranch; they really like the willow patches down by our equestrian facility.

If there was ever an animal that you want to be careful with, it is the moose. Don't be deceived by their apparent slow demeanor. They are quick to anger and generally work with a policy "charge first, ask questions later". Keep your distance and for sure keep your dogs away.  Being run over by an angry, panicked 2000 lbs animal running at 30 mph can really put a damper on your day.
